Montgomery College Earth Day for local schools

Montgomery College student Rani Baransi (pictured at right, with students), helped out on the 3rd annual Earth Day celebration for elementary school kids as part of the Adventures of the Mind honors program.
Says Rani, “It’s awesome to get the community together learning about the environment. This is an age of technological advances, but we need to know the environment is very important to our survival — survival for the future.”

Sligo Adventist students Nikongu, Fabienne (pictured at left, with their projects), and Dria, show off their aquaria and “landfill” sundaes.
Lots of squeals —from the kids, not the gerbils—at this hands-on environmental learning experience.

One experimental station showed how wood beetles, like the one pictured at right, can pull several times their own weight.

At left, kids wear their “T-recs” hats, contributed by the Montgomery County rec department.
